Several people recently have asked me about practices for working with difficult emotions. Peter McEwen (teacher of Tummo, among other things) just posted a wonderful X thread on this very topic!
Watched this excellent dharma talk from Reggie Ray (speaking of imperfect teachers…) about embodiment, somatic descent, emptiness practices, ethics (h/t Avery). I really liked the metaphor map/territory as a way to think about experiencing life through pre-conceptions versus a model of more direct contact (of course, everything is map…). He also touches on approaches to ethics that start from precepts vs starting with View / responsiveness. Lots more to say about that1!
Loved this essay about challenges to materialism by Roger Bacon. I’ve read so many triumphalist histories of the rise of experimental science, along the lines of “how dumb were folks in a pre-scientific worldview”, and this provides an interesting alternative perspective.
